But before you say, "Oh no! No more cruise in the Mediterranean?" Don't worry! We've found an absolutely fabulous alternative!!
Over the last few weeks, we've slowly come to the realization that as a result of several factors (several extra days in hotels before we leave, needing to save for the move across the country, the tanking stock market, high energy/gas prices, ridiculous airline fees and ticket costs, the horrible exchange rate- but mostly George Bush's stupidity), our dream honeymoon that we had booked was quickly blowing both our budget and our credit card limits out of the water.
As much as we longed to spend 11 marvelous days lounging and traveling through the Mediterranean on the wonderful new Celebrity Solstice, we also didn't want to end up in loads of debt. Debt + newlyweds + moving across the country with a cat, 2 people, and a full house for grad school = not good.
We looked into other, less expensive cruise options, but we really didn't want to spend our first days together as husband and wife in a little interior cabin with no windows. Can anyone really blame us? Does that not sound like a fight waiting to happen? Some people might say that that's all newlyweds really need... but I get claustrophobic when you cut me off from all outside light.
But you know what? There is good in the world! The wonderful American Express Travel Center let us completely change our reservation, no questions asked, without any fees. YIPPEE for AmEx!!!
So now we are going to spend 2 relaxing days in beautiful Santa Barbara, 1 wonderful day at the always-fabulous Disneyland with the Smith and Hildebrandt families, and 9 spectacular days in the breathtaking jungles and the amazing 5 star, all-inclusive resort Paradisus Playa Conchal of Guanacaste, Costa Rica!!
Beautiful Pools
ATVing through the Jungle
Yummy Food!
Beautiful Views
Amazing Suites- complete with a private butler and a pillow menu!
Beach Sports Included!
And our own personal pet iguana!Paradisus Playa Conchal truly has everything that we would ever want- it's all inclusive, it's relaxing yet includes lots of activities in case we get tired of lying by the pool, it's in a new area that we haven't traveled through yet, and it's incredibly romantic and beautiful. It includes several pools, a full golf course (maybe we will take some lessons?), a spa and health club (maybe I will continue on my workout regimen?), tennis courts, a casino (maybe we will win back all the money we are spending?), excursions into the surrounding area, motorized and non motorized water sports, couples massages, a sunset cruise, scuba lessons (I think this is what I'm most excited for!), 24-hour room service (included!) and preferential reservations at the restaurants on the resort. The fabulous reviews sealed the deal!
Although we are sad to have to change our plans, we plan on making the trip to the Eastern Mediterranean as soon as Barack Obama has taken the presidency and has had a few years to fix all the mistakes that the Republicans have made. We are also so excited to visit South America, a part of the world we have not had the chance to explore yet! Perhaps the cruise will be a baby-moon? (Don't get too excited Mom or Lisa... it will be awhile)! :)
