Santa Barbara Airport (SBA)
SBA is located 10 minutes from the Swartz Home, 15 minutes from the Zimmerman home, and about 20 minutes from the downtown area. It's a commuter airport that serves to connect to LAX, SFO, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Dallas, Denver, Salt Lake City, Portland, San Jose, and Seattle. It's a small airport, and is generally very convienent. You will pay more for the ticket, however, than you would flying into LAX. SBA also offers a full taxi service, door-to-door shuttles, and several car rental agencies, such as Hertz, Budget, Enterprise, Avis, National and Thrifty.
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
LAX is located about 2 hours south of Santa Barbara, and is the closest major international airport. It's the most economical option, and flights coming to Santa Barbara will generally connect through LAX. The Santa Barbara Airbus runs several trips daily between LAX and Santa Barbara, and offers an enjoyable, relaxed, air-conditioned ride, at a great price. If you need a car, you'll then be able to rent one once you reach Santa Barbara. The other option is to rent a car at LAX, and drive it up to Santa Barbara. Be sure to call or email one of us if you chose to go this route; we'll be able to give you the best directions and tips for driving on the 405 and in the imfamous LA traffic.
Santa Barbara Amtrak Station
The Amtrak Station is located right in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara, and is about 10 minutes from the Zimmerman home, and 15 minutes from the Swartz home. It's a great option for those who wish to "go green"! A local organization named "Santa Barbara Car Free" offers discounts, maps, and coupons to those who wish to visit Santa Barbara by train or other public transportation. There are many trains daily, coming from both Northern and Southern California. By taking the train, you'll get a view of the California coast that isn't possible by car! I personally take the train several times a year, and always enjoy my time aboard. The best part is not having to worry about driving or airport security! Taxi service is avaliable, and they can connect you to a car rental agency if needed.
