Obama.

We are leaving in just a few hours to begin our (long) journey to Washington DC. I am SO excited and I still can't believe it's really happening!!! We are flying from SLO-LAX, LAX-Orlando, Orlando-Washington DC. Quite the round about trek but it was really the only way we could get there! We're staying with Colleen Graffy, family friends of Jacob's. She currently works for Bush as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy (try saying that 5 times fast!) and has been so gracious to open her home to us! She jokes that no one wanted to visit her while she was working for Bush, and now loads of people are asking for a space on the floor now that he's out of office! Ha!

I cannot believe after 8 long years of Bushisms, change is knocking at the door. FINALLY!

No firm plans for the weekend really, except to try to visit Georgetown, GWU, American and Maryland, and for the Inauguration on Tuesday. Hopefully will meet up with a few friends from UCLA as well. There's a great welcome concert on Sunday at the Lincoln Memorial that we're going to try to attend also. From the Inauguration website- "Musical performers scheduled for the event include Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Bono, Garth Brooks, Sheryl Crow, Renee Fleming, Josh Groban, Herbie Hancock, Heather Headley, John Legend, Jennifer Nettles, John Mellencamp, Usher Raymond IV, Shakira, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, will.i.am, and Stevie Wonder. Among those reading historical passages will be Jamie Foxx, Martin Luther King III, Queen Latifah and Denzel Washington." What a line-up- and it's free!!

Weather is looking good for the weekend- and by good, I mean at least it won't be snowing on Tuesday. I guess there's a chance of snow flurries over the weekend now... great. Tuesday's high is supposed to be 30!! AHH! It's currently 60 degrees at 10am in San Luis Obispo. Great. I have stocked up on hand warmers, wool socks, warm coats, long underware, warm mittens, etc but I am sure that I will still be freezing. Gates for ticket holders open at 4 am (remember... the ceremony doesn't start until noon!!) and Jacob definitely wants to be there at that time. My goodness... wish us luck!

This is sure to be a weekend of a lifetime... only 10 hours until we leave! Yippee!
