Updates

I know, I've been a bad blogger. I'm starting to think that applying to grad school + planning a wedding for 225 people + taking classes full time (3 of which I don't even need to be taking... darn health insurance requirements) + working out 5 days a week + working as a research assistant for a UCLA prof + trying to get a few hours of sleep every night was a bad idea. Oh well, better late than never!

We picked out our cake and I had my hair + makeup trial last week! I went down to Santa Barbara last week during my fall break and had a wonderful wedding planning day with my mom. We also visited with 3 more florists, trying to find a reasonable quote somewhere. It's looking like more and more that the best option would be to DIY our own centerpieces, ceremony and reception flowers. I found a great wholesaler online (Fifty Flowers) and we'd be able to get everything we need for about 1/4 of the price that florists are quoting us. It's going to mean spending the morning before the wedding doing flowers... but I just can't justify spending over $6,000 on things that will die. The wonderful Daniel Kiyoi and several bridesmaids and friends have offered to help, so we'll just make it into a big party!

After visiting with the florists, my mom and I went to meet with Mar of TEAM Makeup and Hair. She came highly recommended, and is the only traveling studio in Santa Barbara. Plus, they do airbrushing! I highly recommend it- it doesn't feel like you're wearing any makeup at all! It also doesn't rub off, so I'll have the same coverage throughout the entire day. I gave her a bunch of pictures of hair styles I liked- up, loose, romantic- and showed her my dress. Mar is magic- she knew exactly what I wanted! I gave my mom the camera with instructions to "take pictures" and she went a little picture crazy.
"Dirtying" my hair
Starting the airbrushing- note the sexy hair. Apparently my clean hair is too... clean... so she put lots of hairspray and curls in it.
Post Airbrushing and Pre- any other makeup. Excuse the freaky china doll/one color face look.
Apparently I make really funny facial expressions when getting my makeup done. I'm such a spaz. My nose kept twitching and I couldn't relax my cheeks!
Starting on the hair
The Finished Product! I felt so bridal! Excuse me looking naked... Apparently the red dress made me look too "red", so she made me take it off (luckily I had a slip underneath!!) and hold up a white pillow to get the real effect.
See that lipstick? It's Revlon 24 hour wear, and it was still on the next day!! My bangs will also be a little bit different- less "poofy"- I was a victim of an overzealous hair stylist the weekend before and they were a little out of control.
The back- a bad picture. It's basically a big bun with interwoven curls. I'll probably be wearing a rhinestone comb to add some sparkle!

I spent Friday driving around to different bakeries picking up cake samples for our "cake party" with Lana and Daniel K later that night! Jacob insisted that I didn't try any of the cake samples without him, so since we were headed down to LA for Disneyland, to see Dale and Tyler, and to see Sara Barielles (LOVE HER!), we decided to make it into a cake party! I picked up plates from Crumbs, Montecito Confections, and Christine Dahl.
Lana was a little excited.
Jacob just couldn't wait!
I think there was about 10,000 calories worth of cake. Don't worry, we didn't eat it all.We definitely decided that Crumbs was the tastiest! We liked them because they're young (our age!), awesome, make amazingly beautiful cakes cakes, and well... are just SO YUMMY! We'll be doing some combination of chocolate and vanilla cakes and fillings with chocolate, raspberries and strawberries.

Once we get the flowers taken care of, I'll probably be taking a little bit of a wedding break- so posting might be slow. I've got a lot on my plate in the next two months- grad school apps, finals, finding a job for 6 months, life- so I'll have lots of wedding time after December. But don't worry I'll still be blogging! Just maybe not as much... But there are lots of fun wedding things coming up- like save the dates and bridesmaids dresses!
