As some of you may know, I have been struggling with my job for many months now. It isn't that it's too hard, or overwhelming... it's just too boring! Being an event planner sounds like a glamorous job, but between poor communication from my leadership and realizing that I need something a little bit more intellectually challenging, I finally decided to take the plunge. So what does that mean? I'm going back to school! At least part time, to begin. I've finally found a masters program that I really like- either a Masters in Public Policy with a concentration in Education Policy or a Masters in Education with a concentration in Education Policy- and I am taking a few classes (calc, econ, stats, oh my!) in preparation. Most MPP programs are heavy in the quantitative areas, so I need to prep for that. So this Friday is my last full day of work! Yippee! I'll start classes on Tuesday, and I just got a job doing research for Dr. James Catterall at UCLA School of Education! Double yippee! I'll be researching theatre, drama, imaginative play, and make-believe techniques and standards for preschoolers, and preparing a report that will be included in Volume II of the California Preschool Learning Foundations report, commissioned by the state of California! So exciting! I'll be doing something I'm interested in, I'll be getting PAID (!), making great contacts in the academic world, will have flexible hours, and will be able to work in my PJs around my schedule!
So, things are shaping up. My job has had me pretty down for a few months now, so I think Jacob is eager to have me doing something I'll actually enjoy. Who knows what that will lead to! Now it's just time to tackle the GRE and pick grad schools to apply to... Oh goodness. Well, I guess I asked for more!
